Wyoming council adopts 30 mph posted limit for Pioneer Road

The City of Wyoming on July 16 adopted a resolution to post a 30 miles‑per‑hour speed limit on Pioneer Road within city limits, recommending the change from Wyoming Trail to Iris after a staff speed study and safety review. City staff presented findings on sight distance, crash history, and horizontal/vertical alignment and said the change is enabled by recent flexibility in Minnesota law for local speed setting.

Mr. Erickson explained that public works and the police department had collected speed data and that the staff recommendation reflects those findings and resident input. The implementation plan discussed by Chief Bauer (or the assigned officer) will emphasize education: officers will place a visible presence and advise drivers of the posted change initially (signs with an orange bar will be placed), with citations not intended at rollout but possible after an adjustment period; staff also plan a follow-up speed study to measure impact.

Council members asked about enforcement and signage; the city expects to install temporary markers and an above‑sign orange bar within a week and to coordinate messaging with neighboring Chisago City, which will consider a similar change. Member Schilling moved and the council approved the resolution by voice vote.

The change is effective following the resolution; staff will proceed with sign installation and an initial education/enforcement phase and will report results from future speed monitoring.
