Wyoming to hire Logan String as ICPOET cadet using $50,000 OJP grant

The Wyoming City Council approved hiring Logan String as a temporary ICPOET cadet on Aug. 20, funded by a $50,000 grant from the state Office of Justice Programs. The appointment is a temporary full-time position paying $22.67 per hour and is expected to run through April 1, at which time staff may recommend appointing String as a sworn officer if he successfully completes the accelerated training.
"We were awarded a $50,000 grant by the OJP of the state for hiring a college graduate in any degree to attend an accelerated program to become an officer in our state and our city," Chief Howard said, describing the hiring process and candidate background. Staff said String holds a bachelor’s degree in water resources, works locally, and lives in the city.
The motion to approve the temporary hire was made by Member Anstead and seconded by Member Lugar; the council approved the motion by voice vote with no opposition recorded.
Next steps: staff will onboard the cadet and track grant spending and training progress; if the cadet completes requirements, council will consider appointment to a permanent officer position.
