Wyoming authorizes $222,569 in radios to update fire department communications

The Wyoming City Council on Aug. 20 approved the purchase of Motorola portable and mobile radios and accessories from Ancom Communications Inc. for $222,568.98 to replace aging fire department equipment.
"These are...12 years old, no longer supported by Motorola," Chief Bauer told the council, saying the radios are at end of life, the manufacturer warranty is five years and the city needs encryption-capable equipment to remain interoperable with regional upgrades.
Chief Bauer said the city has set aside approximately $150,000 in the capital improvement program and will use ARPA funds for the remainder. He warned of lead times: "It could be 8 months... we don't expect those till the end of this year," and staff intends to invoice before year-end to meet ARPA expenditure rules.
Council member questions focused on expected lifespan and timing; Chief Bauer said the recommended radios are consistent with county and regional purchasing and that the city should expect to put money aside for a future replacement cycle.
The motion to approve Resolution 24.08.81 was made by Member Anstead; the motion passed by voice vote with no opposition recorded.
