City staff asked the Wyoming City Council on Sept. 17 to declare Oct. 1–31, 2024, as Manufacturer Month to highlight local manufacturing and workforce opportunities. A staff presenter said the proclamation supports a county‑run event on Monday, Oct. 9, at Split Rock that will allow students to visit local businesses and explore career paths.
In presenting the item staff cited 2023 Chisago County manufacturing figures: “in 2023, there are 89 manufacturing businesses here, and they employ 2,418 people. And those total wages are over 152,500,000.0, which makes it the second largest total payroll among business sectors in the county,” the presenter said. The presenter added that manufacturing accounts for about 17.5% of private‑sector payroll in the county.
Member Luker moved to approve the proclamation, Member Anstead seconded, and the council voted 'Aye' to adopt the proclamation declaring Manufacturer Month.
