Dimmit County approves routine reports, grants and a countywide phone-system contract

Dimmit County commissioners on Thursday approved a series of routine items including departmental monthly reports, budget adjustments and a countywide telephone-service procurement.
Staff presented a replacement plan for the county phone system that included a one-time migration and equipment fee and a three-year service contract. After discussion of migration downtime (staff estimated up to one day of possible phone migration), the court voted to award the telephone-service bid to the recommended vendor and authorized the county judge to sign the contract; the record shows one abstention on that vote.
The court also opened three bids for a planned sports-complex construction project; the bids were recorded with no award today. Commissioners approved contracting with Badillo, Brown and Hill to perform a TCEQ-required audit for the landfill and approved multiple budget adjustments across parks and recreation, road and bridge, metro and sanitation accounts.
Other routine approvals included monthly reports from the extension service, FCH agent, constables, golf course and airport, travel authorizations for staff training and acceptance of donated items for county facilities. The court adjourned the public session just after 12:50 p.m.
What happens next: Staff will finalize the phone-system contract and schedule the migration, pull documentation on sports-complex bids for procurement review and return with recommendations; the landfill audit contractor will be engaged under the approved authorization.
