Dimmit County approves professional services for multiple road projects; costs estimated up to $900,000

Dimmit County Commissioners Court on Sept. 9 approved professional services agreements and moved several roadway projects toward bidding and construction.

Dan Hale of Hailey and Associates described reconstruction of roughly one mile of Steakhouse Road in the Grundage area using reclamation and cement-treated base work; estimated construction costs were cited around $750,000 to $800,000. "We're estimating somewhere in the range of three quarter million dollars to $800,000," Hale said.

The court also reviewed Diamond H Road in Precinct 4, a 1.2–1.3 mile project aimed at installing box culverts and concrete transitions to reduce standing water in an area partly within a special flood-hazard zone. Hale said the project estimate is about $900,000; the county will attempt to tweak the scope to fit available CTEP funding while recognizing a county match requirement.

Perez Lane, a roughly half-mile roadway adjacent to a school property, was presented as requiring drainage improvements and modifications to avoid impacts to nearby residences; the court approved work to prepare bid documents and to proceed with construction administration planning.

Commissioners approved motions to proceed with professional services for these projects so that the county can advertise and solicit construction bids. Several commissioners asked staff to refine scopes to meet available funding and to coordinate with property owners where fence or vegetation clearing would be required for construction access.
