Summary
The county approved a property and casualty insurance renewal that raised insured values and increased premiums by $118,334.13 over last year; the county retained a $10,000 wind/hail deductible, and the insurer said ongoing lawsuits were unlikely to materially change rates unless they produced multimillion-dollar claims.

Dimmit County Commissioners Court approved a 2024–25 property and casualty insurance renewal on Sept. 9 after a presentation from Frank Priske of La Verde Insurance Agency.
Priske told the court that total property values increased (from roughly $58.61 million to about $65.17 million) after additions such as contents for the nutrition and activity buildings and that inland-marine coverage rose to about $8 million. Automobile counts on the policy increased from 215 to 239 vehicles. He noted the county retained a $10,000 deductible for wind and hail.
"No deductibles have changed. You still have a $10,000 deductible on wind and hail, which is very uncommon in today's world," Priske said, and he answered commissioners' questions about two pending lawsuits, indicating neither appeared likely to materially affect premiums unless both matured into multimillion-dollar claims.
For the county, the renewal translated to a premium increase of $118,334.13 compared with the prior year. After discussion, Commissioner Doolagawa moved to approve the renewal and the court voted in favor; the motion carried.
The court record shows no amendments to coverage levels or deductibles during the Sept. 9 meeting; commissioners asked staff to retain documentation of values and to include any future notices from the insurer about claims that might affect future renewals.
