Staff told the court the county received a county-only bid from Victory at approximately $700,000 and a combined city-and-county bid from Lone Star at about $1.2 million. Commissioners noted the City of Carrizo Springs intends to procure its own ambulance services for city limits and that awarding the county contract to a lower county-only bidder could leave the city to contract separately.
The court voted to direct the county judge to negotiate with Victory Ambulance on a county-only contract and to return negotiated terms for final approval by commissioners; the court also approved continuing a month-to-month agreement with Victory to ensure uninterrupted coverage while negotiations proceed. Commissioners discussed negotiation leeway and urged the judge and auditor to seek the best price and to consider transitional impacts if the city moves to a separate provider.
No final multi-year contract was executed at this meeting; the judge is to bring negotiated terms back to commissioners for formal award.
