Commissioners discussed prior practice of giving volunteer fire personnel $100, but county legal counsel and insurance staff advised that nonemployees cannot legally receive the county's additional pay. Commissioners asked staff to provide specific counts and to, where lawful, arrange separate tokens of appreciation if allowed. The court approved the payment schedule and directed payroll staff to implement the distribution at the next payroll cycle.
