Rowlett honors Command Sergeant Major Leon Johnson and two officers with awards

The Rowlett City Council used part of its July 2 meeting to honor veterans and first responders. Command Sergeant Major Leon Johnson received the Rowlett Veterans Recognition Program certificate and a Quilt of Valor in recognition of 27 years of service in the U.S. Army; Johnson thanked the council and reflected on service and sacrifice.
Council also presented life‑saving awards to Officer Alejandre and Officer Williams for their roles in saving an individual from jumping from a bridge on Feb. 3, 2024. Assistant Chief Castiglione described the incident and emphasized the emotional toll and training required for first responders; he said the Rowlett Police Department’s meritorious conduct board unanimously recommended the awards and Chief Michael Denning agreed.
The council recognized both acts of service with certificates and public thanks during the meeting’s ceremonial portion.
