The Uvalde County Commissioners Court approved awards for two construction contracts to support a planned regional law-enforcement training facility intended to provide active-shooter and other professional training.
For the concrete site preparation and foundation slab, the county received five bids. The low bidder, Oscar Amaya Construction LLC, submitted a bid of $67,920 for base material and construction of an approximately 4,000-square-foot slab; staff recommended awarding the concrete foundation contract to Oscar Amaya and the court approved the award by motion and voice vote.
For the pre-engineered metal building that will be erected on the slab, the county received three bids. Mueller Incorporation of Comfort, Texas, offered the low bid of $50,781.62 (plus a $623 charge for well plates to be embedded in the slab to accept the building), and staff recommended awarding that contract to Mueller; the court approved the award.
Staff noted the project is funded in part by designated county funds (the presenter said the county had set aside $100,000) and that this action would complete the planned encumbrance of those grant-designated funds by Dec. 31, 2024. The court asked routine clarifying questions about the building frame (the immediate vote covered the slab and building purchase; erection will occur later), and there were no objections recorded.
