Rowlett Senior Advisory Board reviews year of seminars, counseling and DART pass outreach

Kenneth Williams, chair of Rowlett’s Senior Advisory Board, told the City Council on Sept. 16 that the board organized seminars and a resource fair, partnered with the Counseling Institute of Texas and SCORE to provide counseling and education, and supported the city’s DART pass program.
Williams highlighted recent programming: six free seminars (including one evening session), a resource fair with about 40 vendors and roughly 50 attendees, counseling delivered to 13 individuals (29 individual sessions) plus group counseling (81 attendees total), and outreach at the community center, farmers market and senior living facilities. The board is in year two of an AARP livable‑communities effort focused on transportation, housing that supports aging in place, social inclusion and volunteer recognition.
Council members thanked the board for the work, suggested taking seminars on‑site at senior living facilities and encouraged a 'start, stop, continue' review in the coming fiscal year. Council liaison and staff said they will continue to support DART passes, community outreach and volunteer recognition.
