Frio County’s commissioners on Oct. 29 voted to approve the purchase and installation of a Generac diesel generator for emergency power at the county jail, at a total cost of $108,328.
Chief Salinas presented the request on behalf of the sheriff’s office, describing results of a fuel-test and vendor warnings that replacement equipment could take up to six months to arrive. The county plans to pay the full amount up front and submit an invoice for $54,164 to ACOG for reimbursement, per the presenters’ explanation. Officials said the existing generator remained functional but had signs of deterioration and might not continue to operate reliably in a failure scenario.
Commissioner Carrizales moved to approve the purchase and Commissioner Cano seconded; the motion passed by voice vote. Commissioners said they had previously discussed the need for a reliable generator to support the jail and related facilities.
Next steps: staff will proceed with procurement and installation and will file the reimbursement request with ACOG following installation and invoicing.
