Uvalde County commissioners accept river‑region report, approve routine administrative items

The Uvalde County Commissioners Court approved a series of routine administrative items during its July session.

Hill Country River Region Q2 report: A regional representative summarized April–June activities, reporting 3,385 pounds of trash collected in the quarter (2,493 lb on the Nueces, 882 lb on the Frio, and 10 lb on the Sabinal) and a year-to-date total of 11,180 pounds. She said contractors filled 848 bags and that six sponsored events brought roughly 7,000 visitors; the presenter also reported nearly 34,000 visitors to Uvalde County during the April solar eclipse (about 10,000 overnight and 24,000 day visitors). Commissioners voted to accept the report.

Cybersecurity training: County staff certified completion of required cybersecurity training for employees and recommended submitting certification; the court accepted the certification.

Courthouse elevator: The courthouse elevator (installed in 1988) requires replacement and modification; construction was estimated at 60–90 days with an estimated cost of $150,000 included in the proposed 2024–25 budget. The court authorized advertising for replacement bids.

Roads and maintenance: The road administrator reported routine maintenance, chip sealing on County Road 360, vegetation work, equipment movements and sign replacements; the court accepted the report.

Finance and administration: Commissioners approved several line‑item budget amendments (mostly housekeeping), accepted monthly departmental reports, authorized payment of bills, and approved payroll.

At the close of the meeting the court read memorials for local residents and adjourned.
