UVALDE COUNTY — The commissioners approved interlocal agreements to add Travis County and Forensic Labs of South Texas as alternative options for autopsies and forensic services.
Staff noted that Central Texas Autopsies in Lockhart has served as the county’s provider but that delays occasionally occur when that lab is busy. The proposed interlocal agreements were presented as a way to provide two additional options so justice of the peace offices and law enforcement do not encounter long hold times when an autopsy is required. A figure cited for autopsy budget impact was roughly $8,500 per autopsy line item in the county budget discussion (staff also referenced $4,085 in one line item during the exchange). Commissioners moved, seconded and adopted the agreements by voice vote.
Staff said the agreements do not eliminate Central Texas Autopsies but create alternatives to avoid investigatory delays.
