Resident urges Uvalde County to fund fire services, opposes new taxing entity on ballot

Diane Carew used the public comment period to press Uvalde County commissioners on fire service funding and a pending ballot proposition that would create another taxing entity.
"Uvalde County provides less than 1 tenth of a percent of funding ... you allocate less than 1 tenth of a percent of the dollars that come into the county to the fire services in this county," Carew said, asserting that commissioners had approved placing a proposition on the ballot that would add another tax burden.
Carew urged voters to reject the proposition and asked the commission to provide "adequate funding to the fire services, which is your responsibility to the citizens of this county." She also raised concerns about retirement accounts for officials and asked whether Colonial Fund (grant) dollars have been earmarked for Uvalde Estates, mentioning chronic water‑supply problems in that community.
The court did not debate the claims during the public comment segment. Commissioners proceeded to the next agenda item. Carew's remarks were recorded during the citizens communication portion of the meeting.
