County approves land-heritage awards and several community-event requests

Wilson County Commissioners on Aug. 12 recognized long-standing local properties and approved several community-use requests for the courthouse grounds.
Anthony Delgado of the County Extension/Historical Commission presented three land-heritage award applications — two Wiseman family properties with deeds dating to the 1850s and one property with a 1936 deed — and asked the court to approve certificates recognizing long-standing landownership; the court approved the awards and asked the judge to sign the certificates.
Commissioners also approved a request from the Floresville Lions Club to use the courthouse lawn for its second annual Breakfast with Santa on Dec. 7, 2024. Lehi Selby described last year’s event, saying the club served more than 300 people and partners with local Boy Scouts and that the event is primarily a community service and fundraiser.
Finally, the court approved a request from the Wilson County Democratic Party to hold a voter-registration event and rummage sale on Sept. 14, 2024, with Richard Nims representing the party and Jennifer Dominguez listed on the agenda. Commissioners emphasized that the county will not provide material support and reiterated rules against political campaigning or partisan signage on county property during the event.
What’s next: Judge Whitman will sign heritage certificates and event organizers will coordinate logistics with county staff and the courthouse clerk.
