Wilson County commissioners on Aug. 12 voted to sign a resolution of intent to adopt a countywide PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy) program and set a public hearing on the proposal.
Lyle Hufstedler of the Alamo Area Council of Governments (ACOG) told the court PACE provides private financing for commercial property owners to install energy- and water-efficiency measures and can be an economic-development tool to rehabilitate downtown building stock. He emphasized that the program requires the county, at an owner’s request, to place an assessment lien on property to enable the financing and that ACOG would administer the program through a future interlocal agreement, taking on all administrative responsibilities.
Commissioners discussed notice requirements for the public hearing and confirmed two weeks’ notice satisfied statutory requirements as described by ACOG staff. Commissioner Perdola moved to approve the resolution of intent; the motion was seconded and passed.
What’s next: a public hearing will be scheduled at the next Commissioners Court meeting, followed by a potential resolution to adopt PACE and an interlocal agreement assigning administration to ACOG.
