Wilson County commissioners appoint and swear in Santiago Jimmy Morales as Precinct 1 constable

Wilson County Commissioners Court on the record accepted the recommendation of the Wilson County Republican Committee and appointed Santiago Jimmy Morales as Constable for Precinct 1 to fill the unexpired term of the late Leonard Guzman, which expires Dec. 31, 2024. Commissioner Martin moved to appoint Morales; Commissioner King seconded and the motion passed by voice vote.

After the motion carried, the court administered the oath of office. Morales repeated his name as part of the oath, after which the presiding official completed the statutory oath: “Do solemnly swear or affirm that I will faithfully execute the duties of the office of Wilson County Constable Precinct 1… and will to the best of my ability preserve, protect, and defend the constitutional laws of the United States and of this state, so help you God.” Morales told the court briefly, “You won't be disappointed. I guarantee you that.”

The court invited Morales forward for a photograph and noted a plaque would be prepared. The appointment was handled by motion and voice vote; no roll-call tally was recorded in the transcript. The action fills the remaining term of the late Constable Leonard Guzman.

The court then proceeded to the next item on its agenda.
