Commissioners approve transfer of courthouse-lawn electrical meter from FEDC to Wilson County

Wilson County Commissioners on Oct. 14 approved transferring the electrical account that serves the courthouse lawn from the Floresville Economic Development Corporation (FEDC) to Wilson County.
Staff explained the meter — account number 30801-009, located on county property facing Third Street — has limited use outside of seasonal events. "Average monthly usage is about $60 in regular months; during the peanut festival it was about $125 for that month," staff said. The court discussed that the meter is rarely used outside special events and that FEDC currently holds a key to the electrical boxes; under the approved plan the county will retain keys in the judge’s office.
Commissioners discussed creating a simple policy to recover costs when outside organizations use the power for events. "If people want to use that electricity, then we need to figure out how to charge them for it," one commissioner said. The court voted to transfer the meter and directed staff to obtain past bills and propose a billing or fee process for event users.
The motion to transfer was made by Commissioner Perdola and seconded by Commissioner King and the court approved the measure.
