Wilson County authorizes application for Operation Lone Star grant funding

Wilson County on Nov. 25 approved a resolution authorizing County Auditor Brenda Trevino to file a grant application with the Office of the Governor, Public Safety Office, Homeland Security Division for Operation Lone Star border security funding.
Brenda Trevino read the resolution language describing the grant program's purpose (supporting efforts to investigate, track and apprehend persons involved in border security'related incidents) and stated the county would comply with grant requirements and provide matching funds if required. Trevino said the county has participated in previous years and this action was a renewal.
Commissioner Martin moved to approve the resolution and Commissioner Aiken seconded; the court approved the motion by voice vote. The resolution authorizes the county auditor to act on behalf of Wilson County in any matters related to the application and any resulting contract or project.
The county did not provide a detailed budget or the amount of potential matching funds during the public discussion.
