The Town of Rutland Select Board on Dec. 17 voted to add Rutland Town Fire District No. 6 to the town's insurance coverage through the Vermont League of Cities and Towns (VLCT), and to bill the district for its portion of the premium.
A representative for Fire District No. 6, which serves Sunset Drive and Victoria Drive, told the board the district currently lacks that coverage and asked about the process of joining the town's arrangement. "We don't, but we'd like to," the representative said when describing the district's situation.
Town staff said the town provides coverage through VLCT and that the town bills member districts for their share. A board member moved to add Fire District No. 6 to the town policy; the motion was seconded and carried by a voice vote recorded as four in favor, zero opposed and one abstention.
The board instructed the fire district representative to provide contact and billing information to Bill Sweet, the town administrator, so the town can add the district to the policy and pass along the cost to the district. No change to the town's policy language was made at the meeting; the action was limited to enrollment and billing arrangements.
Next steps: the district will work with town staff on limits and billing details, and the town will formally add the district to its VLCT account.
