The Rutland selectboard on Aug. 27 approved multiple expenditures tied to the town’s new Public Safety Building and associated equipment.
John Paul (JP) Fagan, town health officer and project lead, identified owner-supplied items needed for the facility and presented two vendor invoices requiring deposits: a camera-system deposit for approximately $41,840 and a locks deposit of about $12,334. The board authorized payment from the capital improvement fund so vendors could order critical security hardware.
On the fire department’s request, board members voted to purchase a gear extractor ($7,743.78) and a dryer ($14,355.00) from a preferred vendor, citing operational needs and equipment specifications. Members debated whether to delay purchases while pursuing FEMA/grant funding but approved the purchases from the Capital Improvement Fund.
The board also approved payment of a builder’s-risk insurance premium of $10,005.57 out of the general insurance line, with staff noting a pro rata refund will be issued when the policy is canceled after project completion.
Board members asked project staff to inventory existing town property to identify reuse opportunities and agreed to schedule a committee-of-the-whole meeting to refine outstanding interior items, funding sources and remaining timelines.
