Ronald Holloman told the Harrison County Commissioners Court he and other residents have collected about 500 signatures asking the court to establish a roughly 100‑yard no‑wake zone near the floating pier at Big Pines Lodge on Caddo Lake. Holloman said the river channel adjacent to the pier produces large wakes from wake‑surfing boats, causing the floating pier to ‘‘jump a foot’’ and resulting in damaged boats and injuries to older patrons who use the dock and restaurant.
"All we're asking for is a 1, maybe a hundred yard. We don't want a big 1. Just a hundred yard, no wake zone through there," Holloman said, describing repeated damage to cleats and fiberglass and a safety risk for visitors who sometimes must hold railings to board boats.
Holloman said the lake draws many visitors after recent publicity and a movie release, and that increased recreational traffic, including large wake boats and groups of modified mud boats, has exacerbated the problem. He asked the court to consider the petition and voiced gratitude to the sheriff's office for support on related issues.
Court members thanked Holloman for bringing the concerns to the bench and said they would have follow‑up questions and reach back out to him. The court made no immediate decision during the announcements portion of the meeting.
Next steps: Commissioners indicated they would follow up with staff to gather additional information and return the issue for consideration on a future agenda.
