Historic commission updates National Register work, seeks volunteers for committees

At the close of the Dec. 24 meeting the Northampton Historic Commission reviewed administrative items including the Florence Abolition and Reform District National Register nomination, which staff said has progressed to a draft and will be communicated to the Massachusetts Historical Commission. Commissioners discussed applying to the Community Preservation Act for funds to support consultant work on Laurel Park and noted the commission needs to fill a long-vacant seat on the central-business architecture committee and appoint a vice chair following a recent resignation.
Commissioners agreed to follow up in January and the chair encouraged commissioners to volunteer for subcommittees that handle demolition-review decisions. The meeting adjourned for the holidays.
