Board approves six KPIs; district to adopt AIMSweb screener and add financial planning to graduation requirements

The Waukesha School District Board of Education on Sept. 11 approved a set of six Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) consolidated from committee recommendations and accepted several instructional and assessment changes presented by the Teaching & Learning committee.
Committee members said the KPIs were drafted with a ‘‘continuous improvement’’ mindset to provide a small set of high-level measures that committees and the public can use to track district performance. The board adopted the KPIs by roll call, 9–0.
The Teaching & Learning report included three assessment changes: the district will move to the state-selected AIMSweb early-literacy screener and aims to adopt the AIMSweb platform during fall 2024 with implementation by January 2025; high schools will begin using the PreACT instead of the previous MAP assessment in coming cycles; and administrators noted that recent DPI changes to Forward Exam proficiency descriptors make year-to-year comparisons difficult without explicit guidance from DPI.
The board also approved an update to graduation policy to implement the personal financial planning requirement established in Wisconsin Act 60; the requirement will take effect for the incoming freshman cohort that constitutes the class of 2028. Teaching staff said roughly 30% of current high‑school students had previously taken a personal finance elective, but the district will now make the course a formal prerequisite for graduation.
Student Services additionally moved and secured board approval for a full replacement of policy 5350 on student suicide prevention and for the 2024–25 'students at risk of not graduating' identification plan; both items carried 9–0 on roll call.
What happens next: the administration will publish the KPI framework and monitoring schedule and proceed with AIMSweb rollout plans this fall; the district will also update course catalogs and guidance counselors on the new graduation requirement for the 2028 cohort.
