The Atascosa County Commissioners Court approved a contract with MT Mobile Home Repairs for $43,930 in repair materials and work at the county DPS driver's license building (1102 Campbell Avenue), authorizing use of ARPA funds up to $45,000. Commissioner Gillespie said he had reviewed the contractor's work and moved for approval; the court approved the motion by voice vote.
Tracy Barrera presented bid tabulations for fuel and hauling. She reported an unleaded gasoline price of $2.29 per gallon and diesel at $2.669, and read per-mile and per-ton hauling and milling rates submitted by multiple vendors. Commissioners agreed to accept hauling bids to provide flexibility across precincts given mileage differences.
However, Barrera told the court several vendors had not bid the exact material item requested (for example, a pit-run base was not offered and instead a vendor submitted a recycled-concrete bid for a different item). Because pit-run base and recycled concrete are not equivalent, commissioners noted that accepting a mismatched bid could create problems. The court voted to table acceptance of the materials bids and appointed a review committee of Butch Pavelic, Bubba Riley and Barrera to examine the bids and return a recommendation at the next meeting in January. The court directed staff not to purchase any material after Jan. 1 until the review is complete.
Money and schedule: the MT Mobile Home Repairs line item is $43,930 for materials and work, with a court authorization not to exceed $45,000 and work scheduled for mid-2025 to coordinate contractor and DPS scheduling. Barrera reported milling-machine hourly rates ranging in the bid tabulations and described per-ton pricing that varied by mileage bands.
What happens next: the materials committee will review bid clarifications and price/mileage considerations and return the item to the commissioners' court for final approval; the MT Mobile Home Repairs contract will be scheduled for work mid-2025 under ARPA funding.
