The Stewartville City Council approved the purchase of a 2024 Chevrolet Traverse to replace an aging city pickup after reviewing bids from local dealerships.
Staff told the council that the proposed plan is to repurpose an existing city van — which is newer — for another employee and sell the older Ford Ranger as surplus. The estimated cost for the new Chevrolet Traverse was presented as $37,300 plus tax and licensing; staff said bids were received from a local dealership and surrounding communities and recommended purchasing the in-stock vehicle to avoid longer lead times.
A motion to approve the purchase was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. Staff said the surplus vehicle will be sold through public surplus after the new vehicle arrives.
The purchase was presented as part of the 2024 capital plan and budget; staff will execute procurement and follow standard surplus procedures once the replacement is received.
