DC Everest board approves revised safety materials and renews SRO access to student records

The D C Everest Area School District board approved an updated school safety flip chart and the district’s plan for upcoming drills, and it approved the annual authorization for school resource officers (SROs) to access student records.

Doctor Lindell described the flip chart as a two‑ and three‑dimensional teaching tool for staff, covering responses for building evacuation, medical emergencies, inclement weather, hazardous materials, weapons and active‑shooter scenarios. He said the district is shifting training emphasis to a run/hide/fight decision model and will conduct districtwide staff drills with local law enforcement, including a planned presentation from Detective Goff of Mountain Bay Metro.

Board members asked about public disclosure of operational details and whether sensitive information should be reserved for closed sessions; Lindell said some drill specifics will be handled outside public sessions but that general guidance will be shared with staff and parents. The board approved the safety materials by voice vote.

Separately, the board approved routine, statutorily driven updates to authorize current SROs to access student records; district leaders described the item as boilerplate that updates officer names and complies with law.

The district said it will bring a more comprehensive safety handbook and a statutory intruder‑drill report for additional review at a future meeting.
