The board conducted first readings of a packet of policies covering graduation requirements (including a new financial-literacy credit), search-and-seizure, school nutrition and transportation.
Members discussed statutory changes that require a formal financial-literacy credit and that narrower standards mean courses such as AP Macroeconomics may no longer satisfy the requirement. In review of the search-and-seizure policy members asked for clearer language about reasonable suspicion and the interplay with parking-permit consent and SRO involvement; administrators said the policy reflects counsel guidance and that parking-permit conditions create a separate basis for searches of vehicles with consent policies and SRO coordination.
Transportation policy language drew sustained questions about when the district provides transportation, whether private-vehicle transport for district-sponsored activities should be permitted and what approvals would be required. Board members amended the motion to remove policy 86-60 (transportation by private vehicle) for additional consideration and to allow administration to refine definitions and approval processes. The remaining policies on first reading were approved as amended by voice vote.
