Administrators emphasized the committee aimed to balance teacher expertise, parental values and student comfort. Presenters said the packet before the board represents a committee compromise, not unanimous individual positions, and that the district will allow options for students uncomfortable with particular assignment material and opportunities for parents to review curriculum and make alternate arrangements for their children.
Board members thanked committee members for engaged, respectful dialogue and noted the statutory requirement for this work. Dr. Thompson, who led the process, was acknowledged for her role in completing the advisory review prior to retirement.
