Staff presented two wired lapel options intended to reduce audio problems for in-person attendees and livestream viewers: a five-seat wired lapel setup quoted at $2,480 and a seven-seat wired installation quoted at $2,986. Staff said a wireless clip-on option would nearly double the cost but offered greater flexibility; staff also noted installation labor and rack-space changes would be required and that a vendor demo might be available.
Several councilmembers described long-standing frustration with the existing audio system and urged a practical solution that would make meetings more audible for the public. Staff offered two wireless clip-on microphones in the meeting room for a no-cost trial. Councilman Lundin moved to postpone the purchase to the June 18 meeting to test clip-ons and pursue a demo; the council approved the postponement 5-0.
No purchase order was issued; staff will attempt to secure a demo unit and report back with test results and any revised quotes at the June 18 meeting.
