The Isanti City Council approved multiple community items at the July 16 meeting: acceptance of a $3,917.31 donation raised at a local liquor store for Isanti County Beyond the Yellow Ribbon, approval of a special event permit for the Rum River BMX Minnesota State Finals, and authorization for Public Works to paint two temporary pickleball courts at Academy Park.
Keith, representing the local liquor store, presented the donation check and invited a photo. "Were happy to present a check to them in the amount of $3,917.31," he said. Gail Jenin, fundraising chair for Isanti County Beyond the Yellow Ribbon, thanked the city and local businesses: "I am so grateful to the city of Isanti and especially the liquor store and all their employees for supporting us so strongly."
Staff described the Rum River BMX event (Aug. 22Aug. 25) as an indoor/outdoor competition expected to draw 800 to 1,000 attendees per day, with camping requested on grass south of the Ice Arena, additional portable restrooms and overflow parking at Bluebird Park. Staff recommended approval and the council supported the permit and staffs recommendation to waive the $100 cleanup deposit.
On recreation amenities, the Parks & Recreation Board recommended painting two pickleball courts at Academy Park and working with the Cambridge Area Pickleball Association to provide temporary nets; staff located a stencil for $180 and the citys public works department said it could perform the small paint job. The Arts and Science Academy indicated support for the pickleball use. Council approved the painting and temporary net placement 5-0.
Councilors discussed noise concerns about neighborhood courts and agreed Academy Park is a better location because its away from homes. The council approved the consent agenda and adjourned the meeting before a scheduled budget workshop.
