The Isanti City Council appointed Erica Zidane to a vacant Park and Recreation Board seat after interviewing her about experience and availability.
Zidane, who gave her address as 709 Bergman Court, said she has lived in Isanti for more than 20 years, is active in the community with five children, volunteers at the BMX track, runs a PTO and has directed a local nonprofit. She also described experience with grant writing and budgeting and said she has participated in five- and 10-year planning for nonprofit operations.
During the council’s questions Zidane said her priorities would be upkeep and safety of existing parks, open communication between the park board and the council, and supporting amenities that serve residents. She said she could attend the park and recreation board’s regular meeting schedule and that she supports BMX and family-friendly features.
Councilman Holmgren moved to appoint Zidane; the motion was seconded and carried unanimously (5-0).
Zidane will join the park and recreation board; the board’s next steps are to schedule her swearing-in and to integrate her into upcoming planning work.
