Summary
Staff reported survey results from 74 homes on Isanti Parkway; roughly 70% said a one-side no-parking designation would improve safety. City staff presented survey results about parking on Isanti Parkway and the council discussed next steps.
The survey letter went to 74 homes and elicited 32 responses. Respondents were asked whether a one-side no-parking designation would improve safety (70% said yes), whether they would support such a designation (53% yes), and which side should be designated (roughly 78% of respondents indicated the north side). Staff noted the road is about 30 feet wide and not a state-aid route; state-aid standards would allow no parking if a road is 26 feet wide for certain classifications, but staff said Isanti Parkway’s configuration and curves make it unlikely to become a state-aid route.
Council members discussed mailbox locations, driveway placement, sign blindness and emergency-vehicle access. Because respondents appeared confused about wording in the survey about which side was which, council asked staff to confirm the mailbox side and consult the city engineer. The council’s direction was to draft an ordinance designating no parking on the side where the mailboxes are (opposite the parking side) and bring the draft back for formal consideration.
