Isanti council clarifies code to allow storage containers for firefighter rodeo

The Isanti City Council adopted a resolution clarifying that outdoor storage containers are included among permitted accessory uses in the Parks and Open Space Overlay district, enabling the Isanti Firefighter Rodeo Association to replace an existing container and add a second unit for rodeo storage.
Staff told the council the clarification was first raised at the Committee of the Whole and that the association needs the storage to host the rodeo. The resolution interprets language under permitted accessory and incidental parks, open space and recreation to include outside storage containers. Council approved the resolution on a 5-0 voice vote (motion by Councilman Heaman, second Lundin).
Staff noted building permits still apply if the containers will require electrical work or other improvements.
