Council members flagged a recurring visibility and parking problem at the Dolan Avenue and Main Street intersection and asked staff to start outreach and short-term mitigations.
Unidentified Speaker 6 said residents had raised near-collisions at the intersection and proposed moving the yellow curb line back to improve sightlines: "...maybe we push that yellow line back another 20 feet so you can't have a car parking so close to the corner." Members and staff agreed visibility gets worse when cars park at the curb and near the corner.
Staff noted the parcel had been sold to a business that was promised Main Street parking as part of the sale; the business currently lacks on-site parking and relies on street spaces. Unidentified Speaker 8 said that an unofficial dirt lot near the railroad was not an allowed official parking area. Council discussed options ranging from talking to the business owner, posting short-term no-parking signs at the worst spot, exploring parking agreements with nearby parcel owners (which would require mutual consent), or longer-term planning solutions.
No ordinance change or vote was taken; council instructed staff to consult the business owner, explore potential parking agreements, and return with options. The Committee of the Whole then recessed until after the Planning Commission meeting.
