Stewartville council conditionally approves final plat for business subdivision

The Stewartville City Council on Monday approved the final plat for a business subdivision in a voice vote, conditioning the action on a signed development agreement and updated plat notes.
City staff told the council the planning commission had reviewed both the preliminary and final plat and recommended approval subject to the city engineer’s review letter. Staff said the developer will include an 80-foot utility easement along the west property line to serve future development, and language will be added to the development agreement to allow vacating parts of that easement later as plans evolve.
The council announced a public hearing on the plat scheduled for 6 p.m. on Aug. 12, 2024, at City Hall, 5 East First Street. Staff said legal descriptions are on file at city hall and that no written or oral statements had been received in advance of the meeting.
Council members moved and seconded the resolution to approve the final plat conditioned on the development agreement being signed; the chair called the voice vote and the motion passed. Staff indicated they will update the plat and development agreement to reflect the engineer’s comments and the agreed utility easement language.
The decision allows the developer to proceed toward final recording once the development agreement is executed; staff will return with any additional technical changes required by the engineer’s review.
