Procurement and equipment approvals The court awarded a bid for a used Bomag reclaimer (2014, about 4,700 hours) to Michael Cranes and Equipment of Texas for $139,000; the vendor indicated delivery to Palestine could occur within days if approved. Commissioner Chapin moved to award the bid and Commissioner Hill seconded the motion, which the court approved by voice vote.
Commissioner Hill sought approval to purchase a 2019 Ford F-350 single-wheel pickup (price $18,037.77) to replace a mowing truck for Precinct 4. County staff confirmed the purchase would come from ARPA funds and no separate budget amendment was required for ARPA; the court approved the purchase on motion by Commissioner Chapin and second by Commissioner Dixon.
Sheriff's equipment replacement and funding Sheriff Floyd requested replacement of aging duty pistols, citing service-life failures on firearms purchased in 1998. The court approved a GT Distributors quote totaling $53,004.50 to purchase roughly 50 Glock 45 Gen5 pistols with accessories. The court discussed using remaining funds from Senate Bill 22 and contingency to cover any shortfall; a budget amendment (BA 92) was authorized to move contingency to capital as needed.
Public-safety and community items The court extended Anderson County's burn ban for 90 days, citing rising burn-index numbers in southern and northern parts of the county; Commissioner Hill moved and Commissioner Chapin seconded the extension, which passed by voice vote. The court also approved Precinct 3 Road & Bridge participating in a career day at Natchez Elementary School on Oct. 10, 2024.
Grants and routine approvals The court approved renewal of the state automated victim notification (VINE) maintenance grant for FY2025 and adopted budget amendment BA 91; it approved a related service agreement with APRIS under the grant, and accepted the FY2025 Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) grant and its budget amendment (BA 90). The court also authorized the auditor's office to request bids for multiple road and bridge materials for 2025 and approved routine renewals such as the 2025 workers' compensation application and the County Silver Choice retiree medical supplement.
