Commissioners choose selection method for Anderson County Salary Grievance Committee

The Anderson County Commissioners Court decided how to select members for the county’s Salary Grievance Committee, voting to use the method in Texas Local Government Code §152.014(a)(1) that includes elected officials with public members drawn from the previous year’s grand jury.
The presiding officer reviewed two authorized procedures: (1) a committee that includes elected officials plus three public members from the prior-year grand jury, or (2) a panel of nine public members drawn from the prior-year grand jury. Commissioners discussed institutional memory and the practicalities of contacting potential public members.
Commissioner Dixon said he preferred including elected officials, arguing that ‘‘they’re more than aware of what’s going on with the county and how the budget process took place.’’ Commissioner Dixon moved to adopt option 1; Commissioner Chapin seconded, and the court voted in favor.
County staff were directed to prepare the grand jury list for the prior year so the clerk can draw public members at the meeting in January, and to prepare contact slips for outreach. The selection will be completed in January as required by statute.
