Court canvasses election, receives appraisal, approves several routine items

Election canvass: The court canvassed the Nov. 5 general election results. Judge McKinney commended election staff and reported 19,434 ballots cast out of 30,553 registered voters (about 63.6% turnout); the court approved the canvass.
Property appraisal: Stream Appraisals presented a drive-by appraisal for county property at 1819 W. Spring Street (approximately 95.34 acres). The appraiser recommended treating the civic center structure as fully depreciated and priced the land (after a demolition allowance of roughly $190,000) with a suggested listing minimum around $600,000; the court received the appraisal and confirmed payment of the appraisal invoice.
Other approvals and routine motions: The court renewed a donated office-space agreement for Representative Cody Harris (519 N. Sycamore, est. value $6,000 for a two-year term), approved the preliminary plat for the Kirkpatrick subdivision, accepted a replat for Charles and Laura Russell, authorized an Eagle Scout project at Davie Dogwood Park, approved purchase of a 40-foot shipping container for park equipment storage ($3,000), and adopted Resolution R13-2024 reviewing the county’s investment policy and strategies.
The court approved the consent agenda earlier in the meeting, which included budget amendments and routine departmental reports.
Next steps: Staff will proceed with routine implementation of approved items (property listing considerations, procurement and inventory for the container, recording the replat) and will return any items requiring further action to future court agendas.
