Bell County accepts Precinct 2 constable's retirement and appoints Chris Bazar to fill unexpired term

Bell County Commissioners Court on July 1 accepted the retirement of the Precinct 2 constable and appointed Chris Bazar to fill the unexpired term.
The court accepted the retirement notice for the Precinct 2 constable, effective July 11, 2024. The retiring constable addressed the court, reflected on decades of service, thanked colleagues and staff, and said he plans to travel after retirement. Commissioners thanked him for his service.
The court then considered appointing Deputy Chris Bazar as precinct constable effective July 12 to complete the term. Deputy Bazar spoke briefly, said he was committed to continuing services in Salado, Holland and Bartlett, and thanked the court for the opportunity.
One commissioner registered opposition to the appointment on the grounds that the filing period for candidates had not yet opened (the commissioner said the filing period opens July 20). Despite that objection, the court approved the appointment by a 4'to—1 voice vote.
Immediately afterward the court approved Bazar's official bond. All actions were taken during the public session; no additional conditions were recorded in the motions.
