Bell County’s commissioners unanimously appointed Matthew Erie on Aug. 19 as the county—s Road & Bridge superintendent, setting the annual salary at $85,184, the group 262, step 1 level listed in the county pay plan.
The court said the opening had drawn several internal applicants; after interviews the commission extended a conditional offer to Erie and amended the motion to include his name and the salary. The motion was moved by Commissioner Schuman and seconded by Commissioner Schneider and approved by voice vote.
Erie introduced himself to the court, saying he had worked for Bell County since February 2013, had served as a construction crew leader for the past eight years, and hoped to continue working with the department to make it a strong place to work.
The court thanked interim staff — including Chris Klapac, who filled in during the vacancy — for maintaining operations during the search.
