Bell County extends outdoor burning restriction through Oct. 7 amid dry conditions

Bell County commissioners voted Aug. 19 to extend an emergency order prohibiting outdoor burning through Oct. 7, 2024, at 10 a.m., citing dry, hot conditions and a recommendation from the county fire marshal.
The county judge said he had issued an emergency prohibiting outdoor burning that went into effect at 8 p.m. the previous Saturday and noted that under state law such orders remain in effect for seven days unless extended by the commissioners. Commissioner Schneider moved to extend the order; the motion was amended to set the extension to Oct. 7 at 10 a.m. and carried by voice vote.
Commissioners noted the extension could be rescinded earlier if wet conditions return. The extension directs county staff and emergency services to continue coordinating with the fire marshal and local first responders while the burn ban is in effect.
