Committee approves extension-educator contract, crop rates and land-information grant application

The Richland County Zoning and Conservation Committee voted to approve several administrative and budget-related items during its meeting.
Extension staff presented the county's 2025 contract with the university extension for educator services, a $99,560 contract that covers 4-H programming, a human development educator and shared regional agriculture educators. Committee members approved the contract by voice vote.
The committee also approved recommended commodity prices to be used for farmer loss claims (prices for corn, soybeans, alfalfa, hay and organic corn were presented in committee materials) and set the county's 80% harvest date — the cutoff after which new crop-loss claims are not eligible — for Nov. 13.
Finally, staff presented the annual land-information grant application package covering training, strategic initiatives and an enhancement to LiDAR/topography assets; the grant figure discussed was approximately $78,368. Committee members approved submitting the grant application and discussed whether LiDAR-derived online products would be made public, noting that some counties keep the product private and others release portions to the public.
Committee members said they will finalize details and follow normal reporting channels as grant funds are awarded and as claims are processed.
