County planning and program staff told the committee they plan to apply for an aquatic invasive species education and outreach grant (Clean Boats, Clean Waters) worth up to $88,560 to fund signage, boater checks, bait-shop engagement and public education. A motion to apply for the grant was made and approved by voice vote.
Staff also previewed several outreach and extension programs: a nutrient management training for farmers with the first informational session scheduled for Nov. 5 and hands-on plan writing in January–February; planning for a tree sale with orders coordinated through a local nursery; and FoodWise school and farmers-market outreach to expand local food access. Extension educator Sarah Dubiak and other educators will coordinate the Money Matters financial literacy program for adults and 4-H programming in the months ahead.
Committee members asked staff to circulate background material before the November meeting on enforcement options and timelines related to noncompliance and to bring the Land Information Plan updates and comprehensive-plan maps to future meetings when available.
