Committee reviews dark-sky brochure, asks zoning to include it with permits

Committee members discussed a draft dark-sky guidance brochure designed to reduce light pollution and the associated impacts on wildlife. The brochure — developed with volunteer support and assembled by Melissa — recommends fixtures that reduce glare and keep light directed downward.

"Melissa, who was chair, pulled it together into a brochure," the committee chair said while introducing the item and the brochure's intent to preserve night skies and reduce ecological effects. No formal action was taken to adopt regulations; the discussion focused on outreach, best practices for fixtures (downward-pointing, warmer-color LED choices) and next steps for staff to report on county facilities.
