Kenosha County adopts ordinance implementing state law to allow former owners to repurchase tax-foreclosed single-family homes

On second reading the Kenosha County Board unanimously adopted Ordinance 14 to comply with 2023 Wisconsin Act 207 Section 7, which requires counties to provide former owners, their beneficiaries or heirs the right to repurchase certain tax-foreclosed single-family owner-occupied properties.
"We were required to do this," Supervisor Gents said, explaining the ordinance implements the statutory requirement and that staff had prepared a full write-up on the ordinance for supervisors' desks. The ordinance had been reviewed in committee and was brought forward without substantive debate on the floor. The clerk and supervisors approved the ordinance by voice vote and the clerk recorded the ordinance as passing unanimously.
The ordinance aligns county municipal code with the state law requirement; the transcript notes staff prepared logistics behind the process and that the detailed write-up was available to board members.
