Council adopts Electric Vehicle Readiness Plan after brief debate

The Common Council voted to adopt the Oshkosh Area Metropolitan Planning Organization's Electric Vehicle Readiness Plan (resolution 24567) after a short discussion on Nov. 12.
Council member Bressinger (SEG 661) said he had wrestled with the decision and ultimately voted no, citing vagueness in some of the plan's statistics and questions about whether the private sector might be the primary actor for installing charging stations. Deputy Mayor Bulow (speaker 2) described the plan as a nonbinding framework that identifies potential target locations (including downtown convention-center areas and locations along the I-41 corridor) and noted there is no immediate budgetary action associated with the plan.
The resolution was adopted by roll call, recorded in the minutes as carried 5'to'1.
Councilors said the plan provides general guidance for where to focus future infrastructure expansion if and when funding or interest materializes and that additional, more detailed analysis could follow if specific projects are pursued.
