The Oshkosh Planning Commission voted Nov. 19 to approve a conditional use permit amendment allowing a second-floor addition and associated patio at 701 North Main Street, the Mabel Murphy’s Tavern site.
Planning staff told the commission the addition does not change the building footprint and that the property is within a parking-exemption overlay so no additional parking is required. Proposed exterior materials include EIFS and glazing, and staff determined the combined building and addition meet the city’s commercial building-design standard requiring at least 50 percent Class 1 materials per facade.
Applicant Sean Felker told the commission the change would not increase overall occupancy but would allow the business to spread existing patrons across more space. Commissioners confirmed the project will still proceed through site-plan review where police, fire and building-code reviews occur.
Commissioners voted 8–0 to adopt the findings and recommendations in the staff report. The approval is subject to the conditions listed in the staff report and subsequent site-plan review.
